A year and a half ago today Nika had an NG tube. Back then, she needed one because she couldn’t tolerate but a pinky sized amount of formula and she was severely malnourished…. all because her biological family wouldn’t feed her. Today, she has an NG tube for very different reasons, we are preparing for gtube surgery because her abilities to eat by mouth have declined and her medical team want to make sure she is getting the nutrition she needs. The two reasons couldn’t be more opposite, much like these photos. At 11mths old on the left in Haiti (08/28/14) it shows the horrific effects of gross negligence, of a precious little girl left alone. Today, at 29mths old on the right (02/28/16) it shows the result of incredible love shown by so many people. I get extremely emotional thinking of how God has completely reversed her life story and all of the details with it. She was once alone, she’s now surrounded by people who value and cherish her. Once forgotten, she’s now treasured beyond compare. Once invisible, she’s now able to tell her story that screams how big our God is. We give HIM all of the glory for the fact that you can barely tell these two photos are of the same child. Lord, we bow down in gratitude that we are never alone, you are right there with us; for every good thing, hard thing, and every painful thing…. We trust Your plan and Your purpose… May we glorify You in all that we do. Amen! #NikaInAmerica #miracle #hydranencephaly #hydrocephalus #orphancare #love #littlewarriornika

… And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (1 Peter 5:10) When we are suffering, we often feel as though our pain will never end. In comparison with eternity, our suffering is only for “a little while”. If you’ve read Nika’s story, you know that it wasn’t always flower crowns and smiles for her, this little one went through trials so incredibly painful…. But that’s not the highlight of her story. What’s more important than even the trials she’s overcome, is the knowledge that as followers of God, because of Jesus’ ULTIMATE sacrifice and suffering, we are assured of an eternal life with Christ, where there will be no suffering (Rev. 21:4). We have such hope in Christ when we accept Him as Lord and Savior of our lives. There is no fear in death, pain, or suffering because of Him! #littlewarriornika #godisgood #hydranencephaly #hydrocephalus #hydrowarrior #neuroninja #newlife

Last weekend Nika, Stephen, and I traveled to Santa Barbara, CA to attend the Medtronic holiday party. We had the great privilege of sharing our journey with the company that is the leading developer of hydrocephalus treatment in the world. We got to thank them for how the Delta Valve shunt that they developed has not only drastically improved Nika’s quality of life, but it has allowed for new heights in her potential that we never thought could be possible. We were blown away by their generosity and kindness to take care of all of our travel expenses and stay. What an amazing night we will remember forever!
